Do you like cycling and check your heart rate on your phone attached to the bike? This application for your watch makes it possible. Use your phone attached to the bike with Runtastic, Strava or similar application to track your activity, display a map and navigate you on complicated routes in a city. 'Heart for Bluetooth' on your watch will provide your heart rate via Bluetooth to your phone. Until now this was possible only with a chest heart rate monitor. Save money for that extra hardware and turn your watch into a standalone Bluetooth heart rate monitor connected to your phone.
How does it work?
Install your preferred sport tracking application (Runtastic, Strava, Wahoo, ...) on your phone and Heart for Bluetooth on your watch. In the sport application, you can connect your watch as an external heart rate Bluetooth device.
Your watch will measure current heart rate and provide the data to the phone via standardized Bluetooth Low Energy protocol.
Now your watch will behave like any other Bluetooth chest strap heart rate monitor.
Security and privacy
Are you worried about broadcasting your heart rate? Don't be. This application does not broadcast anything more than a normal chest strap monitor would do. Client phones has to be paired with the application in order to receive any data. This is done once in the beginning. After a phone is paired with your watch, the application stops the 'Bluetooth advertising' and your watch becomes invisible for any other devices. Only your private phone will receive your heart rate data.
Data stored
The only purpose of this application is to provide your current heart rate via Bluetooth to other sport applications of your choice.
This application does not use internet connection, does not send any data to the cloud and does not store your heart rate history on the watch.
The application stores the user setting for activity duration in minutes for your convenience. When you start the application next time, activity duration will be preset to the last used known value from previous sport activity.
There is no tracking of usage statistics or crash monitoring. The application does not provide any data to the author.
Supported devices and connectivity
Heart for Bluetooth was tested with following devices and applications:
Applications:
- Runtastic
- Strava

All watches running Wear OS on Android 4.3 or later and support for Bluetooth 4.0 should work.

Please note that 'Bluetooth' and 'Bluetooth Smart (Low Energy)' is not the same. This application provides heart rate data as defined by the Bluetooth Smart (Low Energy) protocol. This application does not work with application that support only the old classic Bluetooth protocol.
